Hiring Process

How easy is it to apply for our jobs?
Instead of filling out piles of paper to send in the mail, you now apply on-line through USAJOBS. Although a few of our positions are still filled through the traditional paper process, USAJOBS is still your one-stop solution for applying.

Gone also are the days when you had to continually check for vacancy announcements on job boards. Just register at USAJOBS and have us do the work for you. Your USAJOBS search agent will email you with notices of new IRS vacancies.

To make it as convenient as possible to apply, USAJOBS is available 24/7.

This is just another way that "it all adds up!"

How long does it take?
The actual time-to-hire differs with each vacancy, depending on the number of candidates who have applied to it, and when application ratings and assessments are completed. Ultimately, we will mail a letter to you indicating whether or not you have been determined to be qualified or not qualified for the position in which you are interested. And, we appreciate your patience as we take the necessary time to review all of our applications in order to find the best candidates for the job.

As a rule, you should allow a few weeks to pass after the closing date stated on the vacancy announcement, before initiating contact to discuss your status. However, when you do make contact, the process will go much more smoothly if you have the vacancy announcement number available. Remember to keep a copy of the vacancy announcement for any jobs to which you apply. That way, you will have all the information you need to follow up on your application status.
