Emile Taw Law Specialist My primary duties are to work on forms, instructions, and/or publications to get them ready for each new tax year. Your goals -- you have to be goal-oriented. That drives the tax law specialist. You have to be able to understand what you're reading and be able to interpret it. That's what a tax law specialist is all about. I joined with the IRS as a data transcriber and a tax-examining clerk -- so six months out of the year, I was doing one job, and the other six months, I was doing the other job. But then I felt I had to do more, and what that meant is, I went to college and got my accounting degree. Then I returned back to the IRS in 1994 as a taxpayer service representative, working the toll-free lines. Ultimately, it led up to myself being a tax law specialist and being recruited by our senior technical adviser to become a tax law specialist in Washington, D.C. They really, really do try to make sure that someone that is disabled is taken care of. So that makes you feel like you're a part of a big family. The IRS values their employees. But you have to remember, as an employee, you have to enjoy your work, you have to have fun. I have fun, I enjoy my job, yes. The IRS does take care of their own.
