Melissa Statistician I'm a statistician with the Statistics of Income Division of the Internal Revenue Service. As a statistician, my primary responsibility is to perfect and deliver data files every year to the Office of Tax Analysis at the Treasury Department, as well as the Joint Committee on Taxation. And those files are used in analyzing tax policy, as well as doing revenue estimation and other important government functions. There are a lot of facets to the job. It's very interesting work. You do things like design samples with mathematical statisticians, develop data entry programs, so that we can collect and perfect our data. You train editors who are the -- they're the employees in the field that are actually responsible for getting all the data into our systems and making it as perfect as possible. You also conduct a lot of specialized research projects and analyze -- do some descriptive analysis of statistics, as well as other special research projects. So it's a lot of fun. It's a great job. One of the great things about IRS is that there is a lot of opportunity for advancement. There's a lot of promotion potential, and there's a lot of opportunity for training, and to learn as much as you possibly can, if you take the initiative. All of us work individually, as well as part of teams, and I think there's a great deal of respect between colleagues. I think that management definitely values us -- that IRS shows a great commitment to its employees.
