Michael Information Technology Project Manager I'm an IT project manager. I oversee the development and deployment of large- and small-scale computer systems that are deployed throughout the IRS. Every day is different. There's a lot of different challenges and opportunities you get. And the decisions that you make here, developing systems -- they can and do affect every single person and business in the country, and in foreign countries, too. So it's really interesting stuff, if you sit back and actually look over what it is that we do in the IRS at the high levels. The way I came to the IRS was a little interesting. I was a senior in college, and I was doing my own taxes, and I went to irs.gov to find a form. When I did that, I noticed that the IRS was hiring. There was a little banner ad there, and I clicked on it, and I looked at the various job descriptions. And I clicked on the one for revenue officer, and filled out the application. And a few months later, I started my IRS career. And it's been really rewarding, and currently, at the IRS'sexpense and encouragement, I'm working on a master's degree in IT project management. One of the great things about working in the IRS is that there are so many job opportunities and so many things you could do that if you want to completely change your career to go to one of these areas where the IRS needs people, the IRS will take you and train you, and teach you how to do that sort of career change. The job that I do now is completely different than the job that I started in my career as. And I received training in-house to become what I do -- the IT project manager I am now. And the IRS paid for all the training, and is currently paying for me to get a master's degree. The IRS is looking for talented people that can do the job. And basically, if you've got what it takes, you can move up very fast. I never imagined that I would be -- have the responsibility I have, currently, at my age, in what I do. I certainly wouldn't have that if I was working in a private sector right now.
